Vientiane – Nong Khai Cross-Border Cable Car Workshop

In November SMMR presented the vision for a cross-border cable car to connect the Vientiane – Nong Khai Metropolitan areas [in a multi-stakeholder workshop].

On Tuesday (17th Nov) the Governor of Nong Khai, in coorperation with SMMR hosted a multi-stakeholder workshop in which Dr Pichai Uamturapojn the SMMR National Expert for Thailand presented the vision for a cross-border cable car.

The envisioned cable car represents a cross border sustainable mobility solution to connect Lao PDR and Thailand over the Mekong River.

The workshop brought together participants from the public (local and national) and private sector to discuss the vision for a cross-border Vientiane-Nong Khai cable car.

The #SMMR team and partners are developing a detailed cross border cable car visioning document with input from the local and national governments.

Project Objective

The objective of the undertaking is to create a high quality, high capacity cross-border connection between public transport networks in Lao PDR and Thailand, in order to cater for the expected increase of cross-border traffic linked to the SKRL and attract regional and international tourism by inclusive safe and sustainable modes of transport. ​
